On 17 February, 2012 the official transfer of the new electric traction unit series EN97 took place – the first of 14 pcs. ordered by the Warsaw Commuter Rail in 2010.
Shortly after 12:00 a new vehicle marked as EN97-001 entered the station „Grodzisk Mazowiecki Radońska” on the track of the 1st platform. After welcoming the guests, the representatives of the Company Management, representatives of the local government – owners of the WCR and representatives of the producer of the new vehicle delivered speeches.
The President of the Management Board of Warsaw Commuter Rail, Mr. Grzegorz Dymecki assessed that the launch of exploitation of the new rolling stock, which very soon will change transport tasks on the WCR lines, is a very important step and one of the challenges which the Company will have to meet in the current period.
The next speaker, the representative of the producer of the new vehicle – Director of Marketing of the Country Market of the company „Pojazdy Szynowe PESA Bydgoszcz S.A.” – Mr. Jerzy Berg, pointed out that the supplied electric traction unit for WCR is in its category the first two way system vehicle produced at home – and it is adjusted to work under various voltages; first under 600 V and then 3000V of the direct current. The full capacity the vehicle will present after the reconstruction of the power supply system and increase of voltage to 3000V.
Further on there was a consecration of the vehicle and cutting of the label by the representatives of local governments – owners of WCR, Management of the Company and the producer and then the train was symbolically transferred for exploitation.
After cutting the ribbon the train started its exemplary run to Komorów where a short press conference took place. During the conference the Marshall of Mazovian Voivodeship, Mr. Adam Struzik underlined the role and importance of Warsaw Commuter Rail in the transport system of Warsaw suburbs, and also drew attention to the quality improvement of offered services started by the company and local government support through investing into new rolling stock. He stressed that passengers applications should be positively considered. On board there was also symbolic transfer of the vehicle by the major shareholder of WCR – Local Government of Mazovian Voivodeship for the benefit of the operator.
The first train marked as EN97-001 arrived at Grodzisk Mazowiecki on 7 December, 2011 and shortly after technical control started its test run on 11 January, this year. Next day it has its premiere run on regular routes of Grodzisk Maz. Radońska (17:35) – Warszawa Śródmieście WKD (18:32). To 16 February, the vehicle was running under so called monitored exploitation which means that all its runs were thoroughly analyzed. Also the passengers of the train were asked for their opinion – to 15 February there were total of 100 letters with opinions received.
From 17 February the train will perform connections under regular timetable – thus monitored exploitation is finished. The delivery of remaining 13 vehicles which are to replace the old units of series EN94 completely is scheduled for the 3rd quarter of 2012.
