Electric traction units series EN97 produced for Warsaw Commuter Rail Ltd by “Pojazdy Szynowe PESA Bydgoszcz S.A”, are the new generation vehicles, build according to constructing standards in force, which meet the criteria essential for passenger carriages of high standard in terms of travelling comfort, passenger service, and maximum level of safety.
Each electric traction unit consists of two sub-units of similar structure (capable of independent maneuvers and failure drives). A single unit is equipped, on one hand, with the driver’s cabin, while on the other it possesses a forehead wall with failure equipment which enables to connect and maneuver with a special driving desk. Two similar units confronting each other with the forehead walls, with driver’s cabin outside, create one electric traction unit of series EN97.
Rail vehicles of series EN97 are characterised with:
- Spatial interior
- Air-conditioned passenger space
- Monitored interior of the vehicle
- Equipped with audio-visual passenger information system
- Adjustment to be used by people of limited mobility skills
- Adjustment to transport bicycles
Consecutive supplies of electric traction units to the company seat in Grodzisk Mazowiecki have been executed from the end of 1st quarter of 2012 to the end of 3rd quarter of 2012. As a target vehicles of series EN97 shall replace the old units of series EN 94, used from 1972. The traction units of series EN97, purchased by WCR are the first in its category vehicles adjusted to work under various voltage of the traction network – at first on 600V, and as a target 3000V of direct current.
