About the Project
The project entitled „Purchase of railway passenger rolling stock to service regional transport on the line of Warsaw Commuter Rail in the Warsaw Metropolitan Area” refers to the purchase of modern rail vehicles to provide transport of persons on the lines of Warsaw Commuter Rail (WCR).
The Project execution was launched on the day of signing agreement (26 March 2010) with the supplier selected through the tender procedure – the company “Pojazdy Szynowe PESA Bydgoszcz S.A.”
The delivery of 14 pcs. of new generation – series EN97 (factory marking e 33WE) started in December 2011. The order execution, by the power of the agreement signed in March 2010, was planned for September 2012. It allows, by the end of 2012, completely replace the old vehicles series EN94 with the new ones. Till the final modernization of the power supply a few best kept old vehicles will be kept in reserve.
The durability of the Project is guaranteed by the Framework Agreement on public services in the field of regional passenger transport in the area of the Mazovian Voivodeship for fifteen consecutive timetables i.e. from 13 December 2009 to 31 December 2024, concluded on 19 May 2009 between the Warsaw Commuter Rail and the Mazovian Voivodeship.
This project is of vital and strategic character for the Warsaw agglomeration area and the Warsaw Metropolitan Area due to a great number of transported passengers and it is in compliance with the second strategic priority of Strategy of Country Development: „Improvement of technical and social infrastructure”, the third horizontal goal of National Strategic Frameworks of Reference: „Building and modernisation of technical and social infrastructure being of basic importance for the increase of Poland’s competitiveness” and the general goal of the Regional Operational Programme of the Mazovian Voivodeship: „Improvement of regional competitiveness and increase of social, economic and spatial coherence of the Voivodeship”. The project execution shall have an impact on achieving factors of ROP Mazovia, SRK i NSRO in the field of passenger railway transport by the use of public transport.
