109 mln PLN European Union funding for the new rolling stock of WCR

On 4 May the pre-agreement on subsidy from the means of European Regional Development Fund to finance the project of Warsaw Commuter Rail, covering the purchase of 14 pcs. Of new electric traction units. The signing of the pre-agreement resulted from the decision of Management of Mazovian Voivodeship decision on entering the WCR undertaking on the list of key projects of the Regional Operational Programme of Mazovian Voivodeship. The value of the subsidy amounts to 109.6 mln PLN. The total value of the project equals 284.2 mln PLN.

The pre-agreement was signed on behalf of Management of Mazovian Voivodeship by: the Marshal, Adam Struzik and the Deputy Marshall, Marcin Kierwiński, while on behalf of Warsaw Commuter Rail, the President of Management Board, Grzegorz Dymecki and the Member of the Board,Ms Jolanta Dałek.

As it was underlined by the Marshal of Mazovian Voivodeship, Adam Struzik, obtaining 110 mln PLN of European Union funding is a great success of the Warsaw Commuter Rail. He also added that the purchase of modern rolling stock will be a revolutionary change in the history of the Company performance. He expressed his hope that new trains and systematic modernization of railway lines will improve the travelling comfort of passengers of the western part of Warsaw agglomeration.

Deputy Marshal, Marcin Kierwiński added that the signed pre-agreement is a further step in creating modern rail transport in the area of Mazovia and a nice present for the Company at its 10th anniversary of establishment as a completely independent enterprise.

The President of the Management of the Board of Warsaw Commuter Rail, Grzegorz Dymecki emphasized that the purchase and launching exploitation of new rolling stock will result in significant increase of quantity and quality of services offered to passengers. Direct result will mean improved capacity to service current and new groups of passengers, better comfort of carriages and shortening the travelling time. All passengers will get a better access to new rolling stock thanks to its better adjustment to their current needs.

Member of the Board of Warsaw Commuter Rail, Ms Jolanta Dałek completed that the purchase of new rolling stock by the Company is not the only undertaking to be implemented in coming years with a thought of better offer for passengers. The other ones already started or being at the last stage of preparation are, between others: the purchase of automatic ticket punchers, modernization of power supply system, modernization of traffic drive system and assembly of dynamic passenger information system. Furthermore in the nearest years the complex programme of track way renovation will continue.

14 new electric traction units, which are the object of the pre-agreement in compliance with the agreement signed with the producer – company Pojazdy Szynowe PESA Bydgoszcz S.A.” – will be delivered by the end of 3rd quarter of 2012. The first one shall appear on WCR lines before the end of this year. The vehicles will be adjusted to power supply of targeted voltage of 3000V. In the temporary period – to the time of all vehicles supply – trains will have a power supply of current value of 600V.
